Dimlight is one of the most well-known Greek female-fronted metal acts. They were founded in 2006. Dimlight’s music combines brutal male vocals with melodic female vocals. Their frontwoman, Sanna, is not a soprano or anything like that. Nevertheless, Sanna’s voice is still amazing and very different from other vocalists. Their first album is named "Obtenebration" (which means "darkness" or "the act of darkening") and includes 11 powerful tracks. Also, Dimlight released their first video for the song "RID." Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuTK5h4LYXw

The first song of "Obtenebration" is named "Preludium." And it is an almost 4-minute instrumental intro full of whispering voices. It prepares the listener really well for the next tracks, and it familiarizes him/her for the whole album’s style and feeling. The next track is named "Dimlight." There are ethereal vocals, whispering male vocals, and a memorable guitar solo at the end of the song. The next track is a song that is separated in two parts, and it is entitled "Path of the Ritual." The first part is named "Confession." In that song, the first thing I noticed was the keys. The melody is so soft and brings in the listener’s mind beautiful pictures and sceneries. It’s a really good song, in my opinion. The second part of "Path of the Ritual" is named "The Demon." It is an instrumental song that includes some male brutal vocals.

The next track is the most beloved Dimlight song according to the majority of the band’s fans: "Absence of Light." This is my personal favourite song from the band, too. The lyrics are about the weakness of the man’s soul, which needs the faith to stay alive. It’s an amazing song. The next track is named "Dark Emotion." It’s the most powerful song of the album. Brutal vocals combine with Sanna’s melodic vocals, and in some seconds Sanna’s voice raises very high notes. Also, there are many classical parts.

"RID" is coming next. It features slow classical parts, whispering evil male vocals, and Sanna’s powerful voice. The eighth song of the album is entitled "Lost in a Dream." It has quick alternations in drums, and the keys are playing a main role here, too. There is a rotation rate in many parts of the song. This is Dimlight’s most compound song. The next song is named "Death Premonition." In that song, there are no brutal vocals, only Sanna’s smooth vocals. In my opinion, that song is the weakest of the album.

The tenth song of the album is an instrumental song entitled "Requiem." The sound of the guitar makes your soul fly away. It’s another dreamy track from Dimlight. The last song of the album is named "Postlundium 8." In my opinion, that track is the ideal outro song. It reminds me a little the music of the well-known American composer Philip Glass (soundtrack from the movie "The Hours"). It could be easily a theme for a movie. There are some classical parts and a wonderful piano melody.

Overall, "Obtenebration" is a very good album, very artistic and full of different elements. For a first album, it is an excellent effort, and a really good production. "Welcome to oblivion, are you ready to change your life?" Dimlight asked us in "RID". I would answer them that yes, we are ready to let Dimlight change our lives.
