From the first time that Ι listened to Halestorm I was pretty sure that this band was going to blow our minds! Outstanding vocals, great drums, and amazing guitar riffs with a lot of influences. But who Halestorm are? The band members are Lzzy Hale:Vocals and guitar, Arejay Hale: Drums, Joe Hottinger: Lead Guitar, and Josh Smith: Bass! They signed a contract with Atlantic Records and this is were the Journey started! They released their first self-titled album in 2009 and their second and most important album in 2012 named "The Strange Case Of .... "! I have to say that this album is pretty amazing I mean some of the songs are really emotional they can make you cry and some songs are the very opposite thing they make you wanna jump and never stop!
The first song of the album is called "Love Bites (So Do I)" what can I say for this song ? It's definitely the best song to start the album with… It’s just superb! Powerful vocals and music as well. I found the lyrics amazing ‘cause they got a deep meaning different in each person and its also "mean" in a good way actually its more like a warning of what a person can do maybe? Its not random the fact that it was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2013 which they won of course!
"Mz Hyde" as Lzzy said there are two covers in this album one light and one dark! Lzzy is "Mz Hyde"! If you read the lyrics you'll get the meaning of the song!
Next we have another great song called "I Miss the Misery"! The lyrics of this song are inspired of their parents divorce! It starts slow and then boom you're wondering what happened! Great music stunning vocals and lyrics that stuck in your head for good!
"Freak like me" dedicated to all Freaks out there (Halestorm fans). Halestorm before they become famous I think that they had the same dreams with many people out there! One of them is to go up on a stage and do their thing! I guess this song urges you to try and make your dreams come true! You never know if you gonna make it or fail if you don’t even try it! When they won the Grammy Award they made the video clip of the song for their fans!
Next three tracks are "Beautiful with you", "In Your Room" and "Break In"! All of them are like "love" songs! They show the other side of Lzzy she may be tough but she’s also a sensitive girl! Even though we are used to Lzzy playing the guitar in most songs in "Break In" she plays the piano and in Carnival Of Madness Amy Lee sang with her on stage cause she loved the back vocals of the song and she wanted to sing it!
Then comes "Rock Show", "Daughters Of Darkness" and "You Call me A Bitch Like It's A Bad Thing".. "Rock Show" can make you jump all the time catchy music and great lyrics! "Daughters Of Darkness" is a tough song with a dark title as well which i find perfect! "You Call me A Bitch Like It's A Bad Thing" in my opinion is a "girly" one in one point and "hard" in an other!
"American Boys" a really different "country" song! It's a groovy song that makes you want to sing alone even if you can't reach Lzzy's vocal range!
Last but not least is "Here's To Us"… This song was performed on "Glee" but they had to change the lyrics to be more appropriate for the show! I personally love this song. Always in my opinion it's another song that indirectly gives a message that you don’t have to care about what others think of you and you got to do the thing you want no matter what! And as Lzzy says in the song "Tell them go ... themselves"..
You all know that is a long way to the top but in Halestorm's case it seems to be a piece of cake! This amazing band is here to stay and this album is definitely a must have item! Here's to us ...
