Stealing the Bride is a Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, German band featuring female lead vocals from Sarah-Anna Janotta. Uli Paulus, plays power lead guitar; Robert Schreml, blasts the drum kit; and Alexander Schmitt provides deep bass.

Black Sun is the band’s latest effort, a five song EP. The band played their first gigs as early as 2005, but released their first album "Roommates", in 2009.

Stealing the Bride features the powerful high and full of emotion vocals of Sarah-Anna Janotta. Her vocals at times reminded me of Marcela Bovio’s more emotional delivery on classics like “Open Your Eyes”. You can get a good example of that delivery on the track “Real”.

“White Mountain” is a great power rock opener, full of grinding lead guitar and deep bass. “Washed Away” follows with deep high vocals from Janotta and more power lead guitar and drums. The band’s lyrics feature themes that describe, “Demons that lie within each of us, of borderline situations and human abysses”.

“Different View” brings back more of the great vocals heard on “Real”, along with some powerful guitar, bass, keys and drums.

“Black Sun”, the closer and title track is full of mystery with a great opening drum sequence. The lyrics are dark, “Rip the web of light. We’re captured. Enlightened forever. Be my cure, black sun”.

This EP is a good introduction to the band’s ability to rock and deliver the kind of emotional lyrics and vocals demanded within the genre.
